Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins

Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos Proprietor, St. Gregory Diploma School of Pastoral Music

As Shepherd of the Archdiocese of Lagos, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins upholds the Church’s mission of evangelization through education, faith formation, and pastoral service. Born on June 1, 1959, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he was ordained to the priesthood on September 18, 1983, appointed Bishop of Abeokuta in 1997, and installed as Archbishop of Lagos on August 4, 2012.

With his approval and canonical guidance, St. Gregory Diploma School of Pastoral Music was established to advance the formation of competent and spiritually grounded church musicians dedicated to liturgical excellence.

The institution takes its name from Pope St. Gregory the Great (540–604 A.D.), patron saint of church musicians and father of Gregorian Chant, reflecting Archbishop Martins’ desire to root musical training in the sacred tradition and spiritual mission of the Church.

Through his vision and leadership, the Archbishop ensures that the school remains a beacon for authentic liturgical music education, where faith, artistry, and service unite to glorify God and edify His people.
